On 22 September 2026, Etihad Rail opened ticket sales for the Dubai↔Abu Dhabi passenger express, which starts commercial service on 30 September 2026. Comfort is Dh39 and Premium is Dh109. Five round trips run daily, with a journey of about one hour between the two emirates. On the same day, Al Dhaid Station opens in Sharjah, and a separate Dubai–Al Faya (Fujairah) service starts at Dh39 with a 1h 10m ride.
What actually happened on 22 September
According to Etihad Rail and The National, ticket sales opened on 22 September 2026; the service between Dubai's Al Yalayis Station and Abu Dhabi's Mohamed bin Zayed City Station begins on 30 September 2026. The first departure from Dubai is at 06:14 (arriving in Abu Dhabi at 07:18), the last Abu Dhabi → Dubai train leaves at 18:47, and the last Dubai → Abu Dhabi train leaves at 19:18. Five round trips run daily at launch, with a journey time of about 57–60 minutes.
Fares are the same in both directions: Comfort Dh39, Premium Dh109. Etihad Rail also offers three flexibility tiers: Saver (non-refundable, auto-assigned seats), Value and Flex.
Classes and what's included
- Comfort (Dh39). Wi-Fi, power sockets, beverage service.
- Premium (Dh109). Recliners, extra legroom, complimentary refreshments, quieter cabin.
Both classes require a specific train and date at purchase. On the existing Abu Dhabi–Fujairah route, launched in June 2026, passengers book about 12 days in advance on average, and the operator has sold more than 70,000 tickets.
Where the stations are and how to reach them
The Dubai station is Al Yalayis Station in Meʼaisem First, next to Jumeirah Golf Estates, close to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. It is directly connected to the Jumeirah Golf Estates station on the Dubai Metro Red Line by a 400-metre elevated pedestrian bridge. The Nol card works on rail, metro, bus and taxi in Dubai. In 2032, when the Gold Line opens, Al Yalayis will become an interchange between the two lines.
The Abu Dhabi station is Mohamed bin Zayed City Station in the same district of the capital. The train takes about 57–60 minutes, versus roughly 1 hour 40 minutes by taxi in morning peak traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road.
Al Yalayis Station houses WHSmith, Starbucks, Lulu, Shot Café and Thrifty Car Rental — a basic set for arriving 20–30 minutes before departure.

What the launch changes for UAE businesses
A passenger rail link between Dubai and Abu Dhabi is a tipping point for company operations across the UAE.
- Inter-emirate business travel. An hour with Wi-Fi and power is effectively a working hour: the employee keeps calling and typing. At Dh39/78 return, Comfort is comparable to a single Dubai taxi ride and two to three times cheaper than a peak-hour drive to Abu Dhabi. For teams with regular meetings in the capital (regulators, large corporate clients, government buyers), that is a direct saving in time and cost.
- Hiring and HR. A daily Abu Dhabi–Dubai commute stops being an ordeal, so the natural catchment area for talent widens. A DIFC company can confidently hire a candidate living in Abu Dhabi; a Sharjah resident gains predictable access to Dubai employers once Al Dhaid opens and, later, University City. - Investment narrative and UAE positioning. A passenger link across Dubai–Abu Dhabi–Sharjah–Fujairah reduces the country's inter-emirate fragmentation: the UAE becomes tangibly more compact. Practical takeaways for companies
- Check which team members work with counterparties within walking distance of Mohamed bin Zayed City Station — they can switch Abu Dhabi meetings from taxi to rail from 30 September.
- Update travel policy: default to Etihad Rail Comfort for internal Dubai↔Abu Dhabi trips; Premium subject to line-manager approval.
- Companies based in Dubai and looking for specialists in Abu Dhabi or Sharjah — revisit the geographic filters in job postings. The daily commute is no longer a blocker.
- Finance and legal teams that travel regularly to CBUAE, FTA, MoF, ADGM and Abu Dhabi courts — schedule meetings around the timetable: first Dubai departure at 06:14, last Abu Dhabi departure at 18:47.
What's next
Etihad Rail is moving from the pilot Abu Dhabi–Fujairah route to a network of ten passenger stations by March 2027. Next milestones: Al Dhafra (30 November), Al Sila/Al Dhannah/Mirfa (30 December) and University City in Sharjah (30 March 2027). The network is part of the UAE's broader push to diversify the economy and reduce dependence on road transport.
